IBM Quantum - Utility
The Brief

This announcement marked a major scientific milestone: demonstrating quantum utility in a way that needed to satisfy researchers, media, analysts, and broader technology audiences at once. The challenge was to communicate a genuine scientific breakthrough with rigor and restraint while creating a story strong enough to carry global visibility.

"A science story this important could not feel like marketing -- it had to feel like evidence."

The Work

I led the end-to-end creative strategy and production for the Quantum Utility launch, bringing together IBM researchers, UC Berkeley collaborators, agency partners, artists, editors, and composers into a single storytelling system. From the start, the approach was intentionally human-centered: scientists in their real environment, the Watson Research Center treated as part of the narrative, and the hardware captured with care and legitimacy.

The production blended long-form research interviews, sensitive hardware cinematography, and sophisticated CG to make complex quantum concepts understandable without losing their depth. I also oversaw the broader asset ecosystem around the launch, including web content, media-ready materials, explainers, and visual assets used across press and analyst communications.

What made the work distinct was its balance: no inflated promises, no unnecessary spectacle, just precise, elevated storytelling around a milestone that genuinely mattered.

The Outcome
Promoted by IBM's CEO, featured as a cover story in Nature, and established a scalable global asset library around the utility milestone.
